Ilkley Harriers AC pursues an active racing programme and throughout the year our members compete in road, fell, and cross country races both as individuals and in team competition. Events in a typical year include the Northern and National Cross-Country Championships, the high-calibre West Yorkshire Cross Country League, the friendly Sports Direct Cross Country League, the Harrogate District Summer Road Race League, road relays like the Northern Six Stage, the Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay, the Calderdale Way Relay, the FRA Relay, and the Leeds Country Way - more on relays.
Club age class records are shown on our records page.
Our runners compete in the British and the English Fell Championships.
We are active in the Yorkshire Vets AA Grand Prix and Championship races (Vets start at age 35!) and succesfully organised The Yorkshire Veterans Athletic Association Road Relay Championship in 2010 and 2009.
A complete calendar of races is published in the Club newsletter.
Results appear in the club newsletter, in the online news pages, and in the Ilkley Gazette.
An annual Ilkley Harriers Race League is based on selected local events.
Club members: check out the latest on teams etc. on the Racing Forum
The Club also promotes and organises races throughout the year - see our races page.
The junior section has a comprehensive race programme documented on the Junior Pages.
From time to time the issue of 'swapping' race entries comes up: person A has entered a race in advance but can't do it for one reason or another, person B wants to do the race but has not got an entry. So person B wants to run in person A's number. Fair enough?
But take care, some races do not allow race numbers to be swapped to another person. If you do that anyway and break the race rules (creating potential logistical and safety problems) you are also breaking the Rules of UK Athletics and that is quite serious. If a race organiser becomes aware of such a breach they are obliged to take disciplinary action against both runners. Unfortunately, we do have actual experience of this in Ilkley Harriers, and the possible consequences include:
So, this is serious: you are advised not to offer or take a race number without the explicit permission of the race organiser and the race entry details being updated.
