Junior Fell Running

Living in Ilkley on the edge of Ilkley Moor you have just got to love the fells. A lot of our coaches and helpers are fell runners and so we are familiar with the local fell racing scene.
Competitions
We encourage participation in local fell races as much as possible. Each year we organise junior races at our own Ilkley Moor fell race in February. Since 2005 we have presented Phil Dean memorial awards to the first boy and girl Junior Ilkley Harrier finisher in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 age category.
In 2010 the Bradford Athletics Network (BAN) are organising a junior Fell & Terrain League for its 8 clubs (Baildon, Bingley, Bradford Airedale, Eccleshill, Ilkley, Keighley & Craven, St Bedes and Skyrac). There are 8 different race categories (age based on 1st Jan 2010) - U10 (min age 8 yrs), U12, U14 and U16. League points are awarded at each event and at the end of the series engraved shields and T-shirts will be presented to the first 3 finishers and those who have competed in 6/7 of the counting events. For U10 & U12 the best 6 out of 8 race results will count towards the BAN League and for the U14 & U16's the best 7 out of 9 race results will count. The prizegiving ceremony will take place at Soreen 2011, which will be the first counting race in next years league. The 2010 League races are:

We also encourage Junior Harriers to compete in the BOFRA Fell Championship races which take place in the summer months between May and September. These are for U9 (non championship), U12 (minimum age 9 years), U14 & U17. Full details regarding the series format, BOFRA membership and races is on www.bofra.co.uk
If that is not enough there are also the English Junior Championship races. These are for U12, U14 U16 and U18. There is also non-championship races for U10's and U8's (minimum age 6 years). The 2010 races are:
