Junior Fell Running

Living on the edge of Ilkley Moor you have just got to love the fells. A lot of our coaches and helpers are fell runners so we are familiar with the local fell scene.

We encourage participation in local fell races and we organise junior races at our own Ilkley Moor fell race in February. Since 2005 we have presented Phil Dean memorial awards to the first boy and girl Junior Ilkley Harrier finisher in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 age category. And in 2012 we introduced a Junior Fell League.

Eight different race categories (age based on 1st Jan 2013) - U10 (min age 8), U12, U14 and U16 (boys & girls). League points are awarded at each event and at the end of the series awards will be presented to the first 3 finishers providing a minimum of 6 races have been run. U10 & U12: best 7 out of 12 results to count; U14 & U16: best 8 out of 13 results to count. The 2013 League races are:

BAN Fell & Terrain League 2013

The Bradford Athletics Network (BAN) organise a junior Fell & Terrain League for its clubs (Baildon, Bingley, Bradford Airedale, Eccleshill, Ilkley, Keighley & Craven, Longwood, Spenborough, St Bedes, Settle, Skipton AC and Skyrac). There are 8 different race categories (age based on 1st Jan 2013) - U10 (min age 8), U12, U14 and U16. League points are awarded at each event and at the end of the series engraved plates will be presented to the first 3 finishers providing a minimum of 6 races have been run. T-shirts may be provided to those who compete in 6 races or more depending on individual clubs. U10 & U12: best 7 out of 10 results to count: best 8 out of 11 results to count. We also encourage Junior Harriers to compete in the BOFRA Fell Championship races which take place in the summer months between May and September. These are for U9 (non championship), U12 (minimum age 9 years), U14 & U17. Full details regarding the series format, BOFRA membership and races is on www.bofra.co.uk

If that is not enough there are also the English Junior Championship races. These are for U12, U14 U16 and U18. There is also non-championship races for U10's and U8's (minimum age 6 years). Full details regarding the series format, FRA membership and races is on www.fellrunner.org.uk
