Such an exciting project to bring 'real' athletics facilities to Ilkley for the benefit of the local community. Our Compact Athletics Training Facility will make such a difference to athletes of all standards - from total beginners trying the sport for the first time to experienced competitors.

There are opportunities for juniors to train on the fells and compete in both FRA and BOFRA events throughout the year.
In 2015 Ruaridh, Sarah, Jemima and Lucy were selected to represent England in the World Mountain Running Championships in Hungary. They follow in the footsteps of other former juniors who have gained their England vest - Georgia Malir and Lucy Williamson.

Three quarters of the juniors we coach have started in the Sportshall Athletics programme. Almost 200 juniors from Years 3 to 9 enjoy taking part in sessions each week.
We encourage attendance at the regional SHA trials and over the years a number of our juniors have represented West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire or Leeds at U11, U13 or U15 level.
About a quarter of our juniors solely train and compete in the endurance programme.
Ilkley caters for cross-country runners of all ages and abilities from organising the local Wharfedale Primary Schools XC League to competing at club level at the PECO and West Yorkshire Leagues and Yorkshire, Northern and National Championship events.

Relays are great fun, whether it's on the fells or over the terrain. On the 1st July 2012 twenty-six juniors and their parents took part in a very special relay to mark the Olympic Games. The 'Real Relay' followed the route of the torch relay but was run every step of the way, day and night by runners passing a single 'baton' from one to the next.
What a fantastic achievement.
All our juniors (Year 10 and older) have the opportunity to help at coaching sessions and gain nationally recognised awards.
The photo shows the 13 juniors who were presented with their Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership at the Ilkley Harriers Presentation Evening, January 2012.
Currently 20 juniors are part way through their Junior Leader Award.
We encourage our athletes to continue doing all activities as long as possible and not to specialise. SHA provides a great all round starting point for the Track & Field programme.
Harry Maslen has been a great ambassador to our athletics programme over the years. He is in the group photo as a youngster gaining his Gold Level 2 SHA Decathlon award and inset in 2015 competing for England and gaining a bronze medal in the U20 Decathlon Home International Championships at Hexham.
