Training
Monday: two identical one hour indoor Sportshall Athletics sessions in the IGS sportshall (5.30 to 6.30 and 6.30 to 7.30) for 12 to 15 year olds during the Autumn and Spring terms. During the sessions the children work towards their Sportshall Athletics Level 3 award for 11 to 15 year olds which is a part of the Norwich Union shine award scheme. We also encourage participation in the West Yorkshire regional U13/U15 Sportshall Athletics trials. In the Summer term we go outside on the Ghyll Royd School Fields to do Track and Field Athletics - sessions times 5.40 to 6.40 and 6.45 to 7.45. Juniors enrol for the whole course (£3 per session) and spaces are limited.

Tuesday: Track & Field training sessions at Ghyll Royd School for those juniors who wish to compete in open competition. In September we start outdoors for a few weeks, after that we have a combination of indoor and outdoor coaching during the winter depending on the weather. 6pm to 7pm - Nick's specific High Jump group and 6.45 to 8.15 everyone does some jumping, throwing and hurdling. Juniors enrol for the whole course (£3 per session or £4.50 including HJ) and spaces are limited. All sessions are outdoor in the Summer Term.

Wednesday: 45 minute ‘speed/endurance running session, outside on the grass at ILT&SC, 5.30 to 6.15pm and suitable for all abilities 8 to 16 years. These sessions are well attended and concentrate on speed/endurance work for those children who are competing in Terrain, X-C, Fell and Track distance events. Sessions are free to JIH's. Bring waterproofs!

Wednesday: We will start with a few Outdoor Athletics sessions in September while we have the light. After that we have a 1 hour indoor Sportshall Athletics session in the Ghyll Royd sportshall (6pm to 7pm) for 10 to 13 year olds during the Autumn and Spring terms. During the session the children work towards their Sportshall Athletics Level 3 award for 11 to 15 year olds which is a part of the Norwich Union shine award scheme. We also encourage participation in the West Yorkshire regional U11/U13/U15 Sportshall Athletics trials. In the Summer term we go outside to do Track and Field Athletics. Juniors enrol for the whole course (£3 per session) and spaces are limited.

Thursday: two identical 1 hour Sportshall Athletics sessions in the IGS gym (5.40 to 6.40 and 6.45 to 7.45) best suited to Primary School aged children (8 to 11 year olds). All newcomers start here with the basics of all running, jumping and throwing activities. Children enrol for the whole term (£3 per session) and spaces are limited. During the sessions all children work towards their Agility Challenge Decathlon Award which is a part of the Norwich Union shine award scheme. We also encourage participation in the West Yorkshire U11 Sportshall Athletics trials. In the Summer term we go outside to do Track and Field Athletics on the IGS Playing Fields.

Saturday: 60 minute family fell run on Ilkley Moor from 9.30 to 10.30am with re-grouping. 8 to 16 years. Meet opposite Darwin Gardens. We encourage parents to run with their children at this session so it's not too taxing!! Sessions are free to JIH's and their parents.

Throughout the year we provide every child with a local Race programme giving details of Fell (FRA & BOFRA), Cross-Country, Terrain, Fun Run, Track and Field Athletics, Aquathlon, Triathlon and Orienteering events they can compete in. Competition is important so we encourage parents to support their children's interest by attending some of these events.

Training 15 years transition
At 15, juniors can continue to do some of the sessions above, but they can also start to train alongside the seniors in some sessions. Monday: indoor circuit training at Ilkley Grammar School gym between 7 and 8pm. Thursday: speed/endurance training outside at ILT&SC in the winter and on the fells in the summer - 7 to 8pm. Tuesday: during senior club training Neil Chapman leads a group of 15/16 year olds on the roads in Winter (terrain in Summer). Any 15 year old wishing to start doing this session MUST contact Neil first - do not just turn up on the night.

Training 16 years
At 16 years individuals join the senior section of the club (student membership is £5 per year) and are able to take full advantage of additional training opportunities.
